Another modern ale style that was developed to attempt to win back pilsner drinkers, this beer has been made popular by Leffe, which remains an excellent example.

It is a clear, deep yellow ale with a big creamy lasting head.  The malt aroma here is light and grainy with a bit of cracker.  Hop aroma is low and spicy, alcohol is light and perfumy, and phenols are peppery but backstage.  Esters are in the foreground in the form of oranges or lemons, without being hyper aggressive.  It is a medium bodied beer but can feel a bit creamy from the high carbonation.  Flavour is inline with the aroma, and the malt is the first to appear on the palate in the form of grainy sweetness, along  with a bit of honey or very light caramel.  Malt remains dominant in the balance, supported by a medium bitterness.  The finish is dry.
