A fairly drinkable strong German beer, quite malty, but the more hoppy member of the Bock family. Also known as a Maibock, it is traditionally a seasonal beer for Springtime. Although Bocks have a long history, this version is a more recent development.

Helles Bock is a gold or amber, clear beer with a sizable and persistent creamy head. A sweet grainy lightly toasty malt aroma should greet the nose along with some very light perfumy alcohol and a low aroma of floral hops. A medium level of carbonation along with a medium body make this clean and smooth. You may notice a touch of alcohol warmth in stronger versions. Flavour is dominated by lightly toasty maillard malt notes, supported by medium bitterness and low hops, both more noticeable than in other Bocks. The finish should be slightly dry with the malt lingering .
