Also known as 80/- ( 80 shilling), this is a slightly bigger version of the Scottish Heavy.  It  fits into a similar slot as the English Best Bitter, albeit slightly weaker, darker, and more malt forward due to lower hopping.  A cooler fermentation results in lower levels of fruity esters as well.

This is a pale copper to brown ale, generally clear with a low off white head.  Expect medium malt and a bit of caramel on the nose, with some light toasty graham cracker notes and some very low apple or pear fruitiness.  Hops here are light to none.  The body is medium, a bit creamy, and with medium carbonation.  The flavours are decidedly malty, with a toasty quality and some caramel and toffee.  There is enough bitterness and roasty character to keep it from being overly sweet, but the finish remains on the malt side.
